Obituary of Edward J. Szymala

Dr. Edward J. Szymala, age 75, of Royersford, PA passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2022.

He was born in Altoona, PA on October 16, 1946, the son of the late John and Pauline (Szymanski) Szymala.

Dr. Szymala practiced Optometry in Royersford and Phoenixville. He was a member of the American Optometric Association and the PA Optometric Association. He was a parishioner of St. Eleanor RC Church of Collegeville where he was an auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary.  He was an avid Insulator Collector and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Many years were spent on the baseball and football fields. At Lower Perk, Dr. Szymala led his baseball teams to several championships.  His love of football showed as he was assistant coach for the Lower Perk Longhorns. Other interests of his included hunting and fishing with his longtime friends.

He was a Vietnam Era Veteran of the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannette (Huber) Szymala of Royersford; daughter, Michelle (Eric) Wunder; son, Dr. Jason (Grace) Szymala, sister, Stella Hertel; brother, Thomas Szymala; and six grandchildren, Corey, Alyssa, Amber, Nathaniel, Wyatt, and Ariel. His love for his family was very evident.

A  Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 30, 2022 at 11:00 AM from St. Eleanor RC Church, 647 Locust St., Collegeville, PA 19426. Relatives and friends may call on Friday morning from  10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Church.

Interment will take place in St. Ann's Cemetery, Phoenixville, Pa. A light luncheon will take place at the Szymala household following the interment.
