Obituary of Joseph L. Scally, Jr.

Joseph Leo Scally, Jr., 81, of Pottstown, PA, passed away unexpectedly on June 24, 2026 at his home. He was the loving husband of Maureen Carr Scally, with whom he shared 36 years of marriage.

Born on October 12, 1944, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Dr. Joseph Leo Scally, Sr. and Virginia McKendry Scally. Joe graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School in Wyncote, PA, and served in Vietnam as a member of the U.S. Air Force from 1964-1968 before earning a B.S. in Business from St. Joseph's University. He worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 29 years before retiring in 2006.

Joe was preceded in death by his sisters Emilie Scally Obrecht and Virginia "Ginny" Scally. In addition to his wife, Maureen, he is survived by his faithful canine companion, Connor.

Joe also was a beloved godfather to his niece, Virginia Obrecht Gatta (Joseph), and a devoted uncle to his nephews, Kevin Obrecht (Kimberly) and Christopher Obrecht. He was a proud great-uncle to Taylor Moyer Heller (Michael), Alexis Moyer, Aidan Obrecht (Victoria) and Tristan Obrecht; and a great-great uncle to Elise Obrecht.

Relatives and friends are invited to share in a celebration of Joe's life on Monday, July 6, 2026 at St. Teresa of Calcutta RC Church, 256 Swamp Pike, Schwenksville, PA 19473.  Visitation will be held in church from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM.

Interment will be private at a later date in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe's name to Wounded Warrior Project would be appreciated.
